Malana is an ancient village to the north-east of Kullu Valley. A trek of about 1.5 hours from Jari village will take you up the Malana village. Its better to do an early morning day visit to this village than an overnight stay. Only guesthouse options are available. The so-called best one is Chand View guesthouse but its not a very clean or hygienic place to stay. Food served is also basic. But the most interesting fact is we went for Photography and got some amazing portrait and culture shots at the Malana Village. Early morning light was beautifully lighting up the faces of the locals; some busy in morning chores and some just puffing away on their Ganja. All our previous night complains just vanished as we interacted with the locals and enjoyed the sceneries.
The villagers of Malana believe they the descendants of ‘Alexander The Great’ so there can be certain self-proclaimed rules these people would want non-malani’s to adhere to- like avoiding physical interaction of handshakes and similar. Entry into the village is restricted, touching anything, especially without prior permission, is considered offensive. On the contradictory the Malana people are not camera shy and there are no photography restrictions which makes for some splendid portraits.
